Thaicoon ~ Thai and Sushi Bar ~ Marietta GA

User Rating:  / 0

While visiting Marietta, GA, we found the name "Thaicoon" adorable. Not much to look at on the outside, when we drove by. Would it be a good Thai restaurant? And what about the Sushi Bar?

After our bad, over priced experience eating on the Marietta Square, we were a little unsure if we wanted to try another restaurant! After all, there are only so many dinners we can have in a week in Atlanta, we wanted to bring our LivingHistorySites.com readers only the best of the historical areas we were exploring.

This time we asked multiple people and we heard rave reviews on Thaicoon, so we decided to try it. A short stroll from the gorgeous Whitlock Inn where we were staying, it is right off the historic Marietta Square

From the moment we walked in, to the cool exterior filled with beautiful Thai and Japanese art and handcrafts, we were glad we tried it. The atmosphere was soothing and cool on a sultry summer evening. Thoughts of HGTV rolled through our mind and we joked about the decorating being full of "organic" elements. Thaicoon is actually inside an antique brick building built before the Civil War, but you would never know it by the oddly stuccoed front.

I ordered the Pineapple Siam Chicken dish. I have seen Thai dishes served in a pineapple, but was never adventuresome enough to try them. When I get Thai food, I tend to want curry, curry and curry - no matter what else sounds good on the menu. I find myself craving curry in the middle of the night if I don't get it. But, with this being a bonified LivingHistorySites.com review in the midst of exploring Marietta's rich history, I decided to go for the pineapple chicken dish and I am glad I did. Full of tender shivers of chicken, succulent crisp tender veggies, pineapple chunks and cashews, this dish was delectable.

Dave ordered a lovely Teriyaki Salmon with Vegetables. As you can see from the photos, Thaicoon is very careful about presentation and the beauty of the dishes they prepare. The salmon was tender, moist and very delicious, full bodied without being fishy in the least. The vegetables were crisp tender perfectly cooked with an exceptional sauce surrounding them to dip into, if desired. Garnished with two pretty carrot flowers, it was almost too pretty to eat.

Emily opted for Chicken Curry, which came out in the neatest brass pot, with a flame underneath. Full of perfectly cooked, crisp tender vegetables, her curry was almost perfect. Rich with the spicy velvety taste of curry, blended with undertones of coconut milk, it was truly exceptional.

Really good Thai food is as much about beautiful preparation of vegetables and presentation, as it is about flavor.

I will say, Thaicoon was so relaxing inside, so absolutely blood pressure dropping serene, that I really was struggling with photographing their dishes in the soft light. With that in mind, I tried not to disturb the other guests, and just did the best I could with limited light. I do hope that Santa puts that new digital camera I want so bad....the one that will photograph in low light...under the tree! Only 5 days till Christmas!

You are a short walk from the Marietta Square. We tried La Famiglia the night we spent, and were not really happy, but loved Thaicoon (Thai food and Sushi Bar) and it restored our faith in restaurants on the Square! If you are a Gone With the Wind fan, be sure to visit the GWTW Museum: Scarlett on the Square. Do not miss the superb Marietta Museum of History, which is a very densely compacted jewel that is an absolute when exploring the history of Marietta.

Our entire family LOVED Thaicoon Thais and Sushi Bar on the Square in Marietta GA and highly recommend it to other families out exploring Marietta and the historical sites of Atlanta. Tell them LivingHistorySites.com sent you!
