Homewood Suites by Hilton ~ Chattanooga, TN

Homewood Suites by Hilton® Chattanooga-Hamilton Place

When you wake up to the smell of bacon wafting through the air, you know it is going to be a good day! That is how our morning started at the Homewood Suites in Chattanooga TN.

As always seems to happen this particular summer, the Living History Sites staff drove through a long and arduous thunderstorm skirting our way down the eastern side of Tennessee, enroute to Chattanooga. Lightening arced and flashed above us, around us, lighting up farms and fields. Suffice it to say, it was a wild drive!

When we finally entered Chattanooga city limits – it was nearing midnight. We pulled off exit 5, and turned the corner and this beautiful hotel stood in front of us! What relief flooded our hearts, after an almost 5 hour battle with weather!

We pulled up to the gate of Homewood Suites and were greeted by a cozy waiting room, and an attentive gentleman that had our key all ready to go. The hotel was sold out that night, we got the last available room. He had generously upgraded us to a two bed room and we, not having a clue, tried to stay with a one bed suite.

It was the last room in the hotel.

Imagine our surprise when we walked in our room and realized it was a TWO BEDROOM SUITE! Woooo hooooo! Thank you Lord! What a total blessing after a horrendous ride spent wondering if we needed mental help to keep going!

We entered our room, into a lovely living room with comfy sofa and chair, and nightstand and TV stand that makes into a dresser. Off to the left, is a kitchenette. Now when I think of a kitchenette, I think of a dreary old Formica topped icky kitchen with cupboards that won’t shut. A cheesy 1950’s nightmare.

At Homewood Suites, a “kitchenette” means gleaming, polished granite, beautiful kitchen accessories, and a great work space! Open the cupboards to real dishes, utensils, glasses, mugs, and basic cookware! A stove, refrigerator/freezer and microwave are there for your use, along with a great little island/office desk/table, in the same beautiful granite! It was a gorgeous room, a complete respite after the storm!

We then glanced toward the bedroom and noticed ONE bed and a hot tub. Yeah! We got a king sized bed after all. Then our gaze swung to the left and low and behold, a SECOND king sized suite greeted our eyes! We about collapsed in glee and exhaustion! We only stay at the really nice places when we get there at midnight, and have to leave early!

We quickly settled into the Homewood Suites, our daughter happily bouncing into her room, on top of her big huge, king sized bed. She made herself at home, snuggling up into the mass of pillows, pleased as punch. Her birthday was in two days, and she had asked for her own room one of the nights on this history trip of Tennessee and Georgia. Homewood Suites unknowingly granted her wish.

Our bedroom was HUGE! We have a massive master at home, and this was almost as big. In the center was a big king sized bed piled high with comfortable pillows of all flavors and types. Fluffy, soft pillows are nestled next to firmer pillows, there is truly a pillow for everyone on the beds there.

Over to the left was a huge Jacuzzi tub. What could have been more relaxing than an evening dip in the Jacuzzi, but we were worn out. It was truly midnight by that time, and we decided to skip torturing the folks below us with the sound of water filling a tub that size, and then the sound of the jets. We later realized it was the lobby area below us – we could have settled into a relaxing bath without worrying.

As I snuggled into bed that night, content, my mind wandered to the comfort of the bed. It was a great bed, solid and firm, yet relatively soft. I especially like the down comforter on top, probably synthetic down, but down nonetheless! It was a very comfortable, quiet evening.

In the morning, we woke to the faint smell of bacon cooking, not over powering, just pleasant and urging us on to breakfast. We went downstairs for breakfast and were immediately struck by the home away from home feel that the Homewood Suites has. Baskets of huge green apples, ripe oranges, and fruit were around the lobby.

The dining room was a pleasant mix of families on vacation, business travelers on long term assignments and all sorts of people. Some rushing out to catch a meeting, others getting ready for a day of taking in the sights in Chattanooga, like the Chickamauga Battlefield, Lookout Mountain, the Chattanooga Aquarium and more.

Breakfast was great – a veritable feast for everyone, and a huge selection for the low carber!

Bacon was still calling us, so we plopped some bacon our plates, scrambled eggs, and freshly cut melons and fruit. Yogurt, cereals, bagels and breads were available. Freshly baked muffins were steaming up a round container, they were excellent. The coffee was good. And best of all, you could eat on real plates, cups, silverware, hospitality, baskets of fresh fruit, cereals, juices and more!

Monday through Thursday, there is a catered dinner reception. We missed turkey tetrazzini the night we arrived, and a baked potato bar the day we left! Options are clearly placed on your fridge.

All in all, the Homewood Suites in Chattanooga TN was an incredibly pleasant place to stay! A terrific value for weekday travelers, with a full hot breakfast buffet and a dinner, it is well worth trying for business or family travel.

We are profoundly grateful to the attentive staff at this Hilton hotel, and want to especially thank Kathie Brewer for everything she did to make our stay wonderful!
